Been Farmin' Long?

Again - with the celebrity of it all. This morning my new auntie Chris was on the radio talking about the engagement! I mean, this thing is spreading like wild fire! I'm not going to get too excited until Matt Lauer calls. Then we'll really have something. Mom's promised not to call anymore people. She swears.

Look how good I'm getting at standing. Its my new favorite thing to do. Don't these overalls remind you a little of these kids? I want to get that poster and hang it in my room. After all, I got a little farmin' in my blood.

My Brush With Celebrity

I keep telling Mom, "I'm too big for the kitchen sink! Just too big!" But she doesn't listen. She says it hurts her back and knees too much to bend over the regular tub. She's going to keep this dream alive as long as she can. Well, at least until Dad gets her a new kitchen, but that's whole other blog.

Today has been VERY exciting already! Mom went and stuck her big nosey noserson in her brother's business, and wrote the Pioneer Press the whole story about his and Chris' engagement. They called right back and said they thought the story of the two love birds was great and said they'd publish it. Well - we wake up this morning to this! On the front page of the paper! Above the fold! Things are crazy here! People are even talking about it on the message boards they have for the Winter Carnival. Then - by some strange twist of fate, they also published the actual story that Mom wrote here. What a fun day! Mom didn't mean for this to be their 15 minutes of fame, but enjoy it while you can guys!

Man-acation Over

My dad is finally home! He is pretty tired though (he fell asleep on the couch last night), his voice is really hoarse (he didn't sound familiar), and he hasn't shaved in a week (ouch!), but all seems well. He brought us home a load of walleye! Yay! Haven't heard much about what all happened up there. I guess what happens in Lake of the Woods, stays in Lake of the Woods. (I've seen Deliverance.)

Back to daycare today. It'll be weird to not see my mom since we've been connected at the hip for the last 4 days. But the separation should do us good. I was a little uncharacteristically fussy/whiny/crabby yesterday too - maybe a tooth is on the way?

Fight tooth and nail,

Let the Good Times Roll

Good Sunday mornin' y'all! Things are getting real crazy up here in the Grove! Music is blaring, people are naked, I think I just saw someone eat the eyeball of a chicken for a buck! Ok, ok, there's nothing going on. I'm actually napping right now, (its amazing how I blog & nap.) Mom's working on laundry - AGAIN - so Daddy gets yummy clean sheets to sleep on when he gets home today. I can't wait to see him! He's more of the comedian in the family. Not that Mom ISN'T funny (lookin'), but I think she kicks more of a kick out of herself than I do. Don't tell!
I'm still working on the rolling over thing. I mean, I can do it, but sometimes I get stuck if my arm is down. Mom keeps telling me to put my arm up, but I don't know what that means. See? And see? And see? I'll get it one of these days.
Rattling 'round like a pea in a jam jar,

Kiss This

Hey guys! Hope this finds you all well and good. Mom and I have just been hanging out the last couple days. We went to the grocery store today for our big outing, but we didn't even leave the house yesterday. OK - I lied. Mom went out to get the mail at one point. HA! We've just been playing, eating, and sleeping all day. Maybe a little laundry on the side, but that's about it. Seems all my pals are out of town this weekend too. I'm looking forward to Daddy coming home. Mom's great and all, but I can only deal with so much. She's trying to teach me how to kiss on command. I had it down on Thursday, but yesterday I woke up and forgot the whole thing. So every time I turn around its, "Kisses! Kisses! Kisses!" Good grief lady! Yes, I love you, but jeez. I got it already.

Raise hell and put a chunk under it,

Knee Deep in the Whoopla

ZingFu

I thought I better start practicing my poses for cover shots of magazines. Pretty soon all the big ones will be calling: ESPN the Magazine, Sports Illustrated, GQ. Oh, don't forget Men's Health.....I better get to work on my abs! Look out Joey Mauer!

Speaking of St. Paul, I would like to send a shout out to all my new readers on the "East Side." Apparently if you write about my new auntie Chris, half the eastern seaboard tunes in. We had a record day of 33 different readers yesterday. We better watch it or Bill Gates is going to offer me millions to buy me out, just for my readership list. NEVER!!

Yesterday Mom took me to her office for lunch. That was a blast, but they're all a bunch of loons over there. Thank goodness they're only picking out pretty colors, and not saving lives. We'd all be in trouble. Then we went somewhere I've never been before....here! Now that was somethin'. I could do that again, many times. Isn't the world just so much fun, every where you turn around?

It all comes out in the wash,

New Auntie! New Auntie!

I have such exciting news everyone! I am the proud nephew of another auntie!! My uncle Derek proposed to his girlfriend Chris last night, and believe it or not, she said YES! She said YES! She pictured above standing beside her new fiance and my mom. I definitely approve of this couple. She is so much fun and she makes me laugh like no one else. Just look at this. And that was taken in September, when I would only smile for Queen Elizabeth and Oprah.

Derek proposed last night in Como Park in St. Paul. They were out hunting for the Winter Carnival Medallion. But, the whole thing almost didn't happen....my uncle and my mom (well more Derek than her) were just DYING on Tuesday night when they found out that someone found the winter carnival medallion!! He had been planning and planning on asking Chris while they searched for it. He called us almost in tears and totally panicking!! He came over and we all brainstormed for about 4 hours on trying to think of another special, yet last minute way to propose. We were googling "unique proposals" and stuff like that. We had plans in place where Mom and I were in disguises and I'd deliver a pizza with the ring in the pizza box! I mean Mom was actually trying out the disguise around the house. It was good too. Then, Chris is so efficient, and we had to figure out how to make sure Derek ordered the pizza, when he really was calling us to come over and deliver it. I mean, this was a process people!!
Then we had an idea to put it in her glove that she left at my house with this whole big story. Derek would throw the glove on the counter and then it would "clang" when it hit the counter and then Chris would wonder why it did that and then she would find the ring. But Derek was still stuck on getting us in costumes. OR - how about when Derek pics her up for dinner, she would quick go to the bath room before they left, and then when she opened the door, he'd be kneeling there with the ring. "But its in a bathroom!!" Derek didn't go for that one.
We were dying laughing - THEN - she actually called and said they are going to do a second hunt!!! We couldn't believe it!!!!! Derek went from pure crabby, stressed, bummed, and worried - to total hyper, happiness!! It was awesome.
We got the call last night that it happened, just as planned. And found out that Chris' grandparents also got engaged in Como Park. How cool is that? Its meant to be. It'll be a great story to remember every year when they hunt for the medallion, and when they take their kids. (hint, hint, I need more cousins!) Welcome to our family Auntie Chris. We've been wanting to say that for a long time.

Lake O' the Woods

Hi there! Today is kind of a sad day for me because my daddy is going on a little "man-cation" with all his buddies "up north." I wish I could go, but Mom says I don't need to get messed up in all that beer-fart, smelly nastiness. But honestly, its all I dream about at night. Someday I'll get to go, and drink beer, and fart, and tell stories and play cards.......someday.........alas........

Daddy, just be careful. I know the ice is supposed to be good there, but be smart and call when you can. Mama and I will miss you a lot. Our plan is to watch as many cartoons as we can cram in, since you don't like to watch them with us. We also might go to McDonald's and get a #2, since you don't like those either. I guess you could say Mom and I are on our own little "daddy's gone so we can watch and eat what we want - cation."

Month 7 Archives

Hi Henry! Mama Johnston here. Its that time again, I didn't even realize it. You turned 7 months old on Sunday. Seven months. I mean, that's almost like you're getting to the point where you aren't so *little* anymore. I'm kind of sad, but looking forward to all of your non-stop babbling you do - to turn into real words. You talk constantly. All day. I hear you sometimes at 3am talking. You are almost always awake at 6am talking and talking. I won't come get you out of bed until 7, but you don't seem to mind. You talk to your toes, to your hands, to your blanket. Its just so funny. You know you get that from your father, right?

Speaking of your blanket - you just love it. I let you have it in your crib with you. Which I know might not be the best idea. But I think you're strong enough to pull it away from you if it becomes a problem. That being said, 98% of the time I come into your room to check on you, day or night, that dang blanket is no where on your body except your face. I find it absolutely hysterical and terrifying all at the same time. When we lay you down for a nap, you are the only baby in the world that gets the giggles. And then when you get your blanket along with it, you just squeal in delight. I know you will, but please don't ever change that about you. We're seeing your cousin Annie, hating naps now at age 2 and getting up in the night. We just know you would never do something like that. (wink)

Milestones this month - the roll over baby! Nice job. I was concerned it was taking so long, but hopefully I'll stop pressuring you one of these days. You've eaten cereal, bananas, green beans, and your favorite so far - squash. We've also given you teething biscuits and sweet potato veggie puffs, (which your dad likes better than you!) You like them, and you put them in your hand, but for some reason you can't quite get them to your mouth yet. You've also been sitting in high chairs out at restaurants with us now. Its nice for us because you've become quite "grabbie" and its easier for your dad and I to eat when you're in your chair. As long as you have your biscuit and veggie puffs.

Your schedule is awesome right now too. You are up for two hours, you nap for two hours, and then you sleep for about 12 hours at night. Its amazing and you're always in a good mood. We go days without you crying. We are having so much fun, and everyone is just amazed at how happy and easy you are. We're kind of just waiting for the other shoe to drop. My favorite time is on my days off, when Daddy brings you to our bed in the morning so you can have your breakfast and then we just hang out and play for a couple hours until its your nap time again. Its kind of a lazy thing, when you think of all there is on my "to-do" list, but I figure one of these days you're not going to want to hang out in bed with me all day, so I need to do it while I can.

Loves you, Mama

God Bless You My Child

Again with the shirt on the head. Honestly. How juvenile. I guess I can deal with looking like a nun. It just makes them both laugh so hard everytime they do it, now they can't stop. And then they say things like, "Oh Sister Henry, can you please forgive me?" and they giggle and giggle. Simple minds.

Same old, same old today. I'm back at Darlene's again today. I did finally roll over for her yesterday, she was very excited. I just like to go around spreadin' the love.

A faint heart never a true love knows,

Look Out Summer Olympics 2008

Hello! Hope everyone out there in cyber-land is doing well today. Everything on this end is great! It snowed yesterday, not much, but enough to even piss off the Buddha! Yesterday I got to hang with my cousins. I guess that's one good thing about them moving. They come over every Sunday to play while they have an open house at their house, trying to sell it. This way we get to spend extra time together.

I ate bananas for the first time yesterday, so that was a big deal. They were OK, but I thought I'd like them better. Nothing seems to beat the squash yet. Mom thinks I'm crazy. The rolling over is still pretty sporadic. I love to torment Darlene, she still hasn't seen me do it. Then yesterday I got myself all twisted around, but was able to pull out of it into a full back hand spring.

Welcome Home Mugsy

I'd like to introduce to you all, my new pet - Mugsy. Isn't he so cool?! I love how flowy and spikey he is. We went to the fish store and there were all kinds of fun fish. I just loved looking at all of them. But when I saw this guy, I knew he was the one for me. He swam right on over to me and nuzzled his little nose on the side of the bowl. He looked at me with those big, black eyes, and I just couldn't resist. He likes it when I pet him. We're going to be pals forever!

As for tonight, we're hoping to get together with my cousins, and my uncle, and my bud Palmer. We'll see what we can work out.

Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door,

Waskily Wabbit

Good morning! Its a nice cool crisp January morning here in Maple Grove, MN. The sun is shining and I'm already down for my first nap of the day by 9am. Rough life, huh?

Well, yesterday when my parents went to the gym, the daycare they have was really cool and fun. I only got to stay about 15 minutes though, because Mom ended up having a melt down. I know she says I have them, but sometimes she has them too. That must be where I get it. Sometimes she just doesn't like to try new things, and as soon as she walked in, she wanted to leave. No one was around to show her how to use the lockers, she walked all over the locker room and couldn't find the toilet and she had to pee bad! Then there were only certain machines in certain areas she could use, but no one told her which was which, so she turned into a crazy person and left. So much for the 5k this summer. She's very ashamed today, but I don't think she's allowed back to the Lifetime club in Plymouth. They'll get over it.

Here's the video of me in my Jumperoo from yesterday. After a good nights sleep, Mom is back in her right mind and able to deal with machines again. Maybe not snotty people that work at gyms, but she's back on board with computers. Just click here and you can watch my videos. All two of them, but we'll do more.

The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree,

PS - I waited too long to wear this hat, and now it can't fit on my unusually large melon. Enjoy it while you can.

Jump Jump

Here's a picture of me LOVING my Jumperpoo! It was a present from the Rogen's. I've been using it for a while, but just recently have really figured out how to do it. I used to only jump with one leg, but now I know you're supposed to use both. Mom took a video of me jumping in it and will post it here later. Apparently she's having some technical difficulties and had to "step away from the machine."

Today I guess I'm going to this place with Mom and Dad when I get up from my nap. Something about getting ready for a Mexican vacation or something. I'm not sure what's that's all about. I'm sure I'll learn sooner or later. They tell me there's a great daycare at this place that we're going, so we'll see.

Fighting Fish

One sock on, one sock off - let's call the whole thing off. Dad thinks my face looks like the fish on my shirt in this pic. I'm cool with it.

This morning I woke up at 5:30 and started talking. Mom heard me but ignored me. I was in full scream by 6:15, so she finally talked Dad into coming to get me up. Turns out I was crammed into the corner of my crib. I'm getting to be a good scoocher and spinner, so sometimes I get myself in these predicaments. Everything worked out though. They got me up, fed me, and then I fell back asleep for about an hour. I missed my morning play time with Mom before work, but today is our Friday and we can play all day tomorrow if we wanna.

I would like to send a shout out to my cousins Annie & Jasper. Their Daddy had to go to TX yesterday for his new job, and they probably won't see him for like, two or more weeks. I know they're sad and I'm sad too. You guys can come play with me anytime you want.

Oh - and I'd like to send another shout out to my Gammy. She had her last round of chemo yesterday!! YAY!!! One more thing to check off the list! I know you probably don't feel good today, but just know that part is over and you're one step closer to ending this thing. I love you Gammy.

Hat Trick

Hey y'all! I just love this picture of me and my Gammy! I had to share it with you all!! Now that I think about it - I guess I really am a hat kind of guy.

Yesterday I threw Mom & Dad for a little loop, when after about 2 hours after they put me to bed for the night, I woke up screaming. I think maybe I had a bad dream or accidentally turned my music on in my room and it scared me! I was really freaked out for a little bit, but Mom came and hugged me and I fell right back asleep. I haven't woken up after they've put me to bed in so long, they didn't know what to do with me. We were all shocked.

Not much else going on, I'm at Darlene's again today. Yesterday Dad forgot to tell her I rolled over, so I'm sure today will be a day full of showing that new trick off to all of my friends.

Good night and good luck, HAJ

Back At It

My parents do these weird things to me.....take my shirt off and then just leave it on my head like this......for hours. Dad thought I looked like a chef, and Mom said I looked like a nun. I mean really.

This weekend was so fun that I'm sad its over. On Friday we had a birthday party for Daddy! Mom made him this great cake where I got to sample the frosting. My great auntie Jodi and uncle Butch came to town for the weekend too! They are so much fun to hang out with. It was sad to see them go after such a quick visit. Hopefully we'll see them again soon.

Not much else going on this week. Back to the old grind.

Breaking News!!

This just in!! This just in!!! THIS just happened! Then THIS!! AND THEN THIS!!! 6 months, 3 weeks, 2 days!! Finally!! We're talking milestones here people.

HAJ

PS - I'm crying because that was actually the 3rd time I did it, and I was cranky and it was nap time and I actually hate doing it, and Mom made me do it one more time so she could take a picture.

I'm Your Buckaroo

Today is my dad's birthday! Out of respect for him, I won't divulge his age. We have a lot of fun things planned for the day, but I still can't tell you what they are because they are a surprise to Papa. He's actually out fishing now. He got up bright and early and headed out. I haven't even seen him yet today to give him a big smooch. Tomorrow I'll fill you in and hopefully get you some photos of the fun and games.

I wanted to take this opportunity to tell my dad how much I really love him. He's the MOST fun guy I know. All he has to do is walk in the room, and I am SO excited to see him. He's always in a good mood and full of energy. I love to hang out with him and attack his face. See above. I love our wrestling matches in the mornings before he takes me to school. He always dresses me in my cool camouflage clothes, and in jeans, and other really manly things. Not like Mom, she makes me where things with puppies and penguins on the front. Which isn't bad either, but I feel like Dad has a better idea of my fashion style. I wish I couldn't have gone fishing with him this morning. I don't know if I'm more excited to learn to fish or if he's more excited to teach me!

Anyway, I have the best dad in the world. Read it and weep!

Party Prep

This is a shot of Daddy and I hanging out in TX. We were trying to have a private moment, but those dang paparazzi can find you anywhere. I miss the warmth of Texas. Its supposed to get cold here tomorrow, I don't know what that means, but I guess I'm really in for it.

Today Mom and I went everywhere in creation. We're getting ready for our guests this weekend and for Daddy's birthday tomorrow. I can't say all preparations that have been taking place, but Mom had a lot of errands going on today!

Well, I better get back at it - I'm on laundry duty.

Be sure to have your pets spade and neutered,

Goodbye Catfish

I'm emotionally unavailable to the Vikings.

Last night Mom fed me what they call "pureed green beans." They were actually pretty good at first. I get really excited when I'm eating big kid food. I start squeeling and kicking and moving my hands. But towards the end of the bowl, I was starting to get over them and I would gag when Mom put them in my mouth. She was dying laughing, and then she did it again so Daddy could see. They were both laughing at me. Finally they stopped and put the beans away. Tonight I get my first shot at peas, but I saw there was some bananas in the cupboard, so maybe they'll be nice and let me have those. I'll let you know...

There is some sad news in the Johnston home to report - my first and only pet "Catfish Fancy Pants" passed away sometime in the night. He moved into our new home with us, and helped us deal with the passing of our last fish, Stevie Nicks, who later became known as Terry Schiavo (because she refused to eat.) He lived a wonderful 7 months and brought us a lot of happiness. He'll truely be missed.

AND -for those of you wondering, the mouse count is up to 8, but we haven't seen anything since New Year's day. We're hoping we've turned a "no more mouse" corner.

See you in 2 & 2 - HAJ

That's Just How I Roll

In my red Radio Flyer wagon, being pulled by my grandpa E by his belt strap wrapped around the handle so he doesn't have to bend over and throw his back out - that's how I roll.

Not much going on around these parts today. I'm spending the day hangin' out with my friends at daycare and then I'll cruise on back home tonight to chill with my parental units. Looking forward to a visit from my Great Auntie Jodi and Great Uncle Butch this weekend!

Welcome to the Gates of Heaven

Yesterday we spent most of the day with my cousin Jasper. It was his baptism day! I haven't done that yet, but Mom says my time is coming. Jasper had to get naked and was fully DUNKED into a tub of water, not one, but THREE times. He said it was all cool, but after it was over he was freezing. I was cold, and I had a hat and sweater on. When it was over we went to his house and ate egg bake! Yum-O! Its my new favorite food, along with the orange/cranberry muffin I had a little of. Big kid food is fun!
Today I'm back at daycare with nothing too exciting going on this week. Which is nice because its hard to be booked up all the time. Sometimes I just need to relax!

Little Mr. Independant

Slowly but surely Mom is being phased out. I can sit up, I can hold my own bottle, once I figure out how to make my bottles....I'm outta here. I mean, what else is there? Oh, I guess I need to get mobile. So yeah, once the crawling or walking starts, I may be coming to a town near you.

Today we're going to be running errands - grocery shopping, going out to lunch, go to the bank, stuff like that. Tonight we're babysitting my cousins Annie and Jasper while their mom and dad go out to dinner with their grandparents. So that'll be fun and I can't wait.

Have a great weekend!

My "Rich" Uncle

Hey guys!! Today was a super fun day for me! I got to hang out all day with my uncle Derek! Mom had a dr appt and then when to get her nails done. Whatever. Der and I just hung out all day, I napped, and he talked on the phone. Then we played. It was so fun, and what a treat. Before Mom left, we went to lunch and I just talked and talked all through the meal. Derek even treated us! I have the best uncles!
Tonight we're going out for sushi with Mom and Dad's friend Laurie. I like her too cuz she teaches me stuff like the "slam dunk" and "the j", but she also teaches me things about planning for my retirement and college education. She's my token "math friend." HA!
How y'all diggin' my new high chair? I'm totally rockin' a new ride. I'm lovin' it until "they" all are out of my line of vision, then I have a melt down. I just don't like to be left alone these days. Like today when I threw up all over Mom's outfit, and she had to go upstairs and change clothes and then put the dirty clothes directly in the wash because it was so bad...yeah, I screamed when I was left alone for those 20 seconds....drives Mom crazy. It seems to be happening a little more these days......strangers are starting to frighten me too......Mom is not happy about it....I'll grow out of it....I hope......
Peace Out,
HAJ
PS - Shout out to my Cuz Jasper - there's a cool pic of us on his blog - www.mypumpkinjuice.blogspot.com with my other cuz Annie and bestest bud Palmer. Check it out.

Hoot! Hoot!

The results are in! Apparently I'm extremely healthy, progressing finely, and sleep WAY more than most other babies my doctor takes care of! She was very impressed with my 18 hours of sleep a day, and she told Mom and Dad how lucky they are. Yeah, Dad went with me to my appointment. This was his first time. Also, this was the first time he was with me when I had to get a shot. I got three again today, but at least I get cool Snoopy band aids. AND - as soon as the nurse left the room, Daddy snuck me a little bit of chocolate and it took my mind totally off the trauma.

So - here's where I am - weight: 18lbs 15oz (68%), length: 27" (62%), and head: 44.8cm (72%). Seems my head is really starting to come along. The dr. looked at Daddy, and said, "It is hereditary." Mommy laughed.

So, I'm going to take a nap now and maybe do a little shot of Baby Tylenol. I shall return with more ramblings tomorrow.

HAJ

Check It Out

Check out A. this cool wagon I got from my uncle Derek and "auntie" Chris. I love, love, love it. B. I am standing by myself. Oh yeah, all by myself. Granted, I fell down right after this shot and then I was totally PO'd, but I still did it. Things seem to be coming along nicely.

The big plan for today is we're going to the dr for my 6 month check up. I have a feeling that means SHOTS again. I'm sick of it. But I am curious to hear how big I am and if I check out OK with everything else. I will write more when I return.

Just Buy Me the Peanuts and CrackerJacks

Living up to my name - Hank Aaron - I am LOVING this new baseball game Palmer gave me for Christmas. I can't stop swatting at it and laughing at it. It plays the best music and always tells me I hit a home run! Dad is only slightly disappointed that I have been using my right arm more than my left - but no final decisions have been made at this time regarding my ambidexterity.

Thank goodness for short work weeks! Today is already my last day at daycare for the week and I get to hang out with Mom again tomorrow. Although yesterday when I showed up at Darlene's I felt like a movie star! All the kids were yelling "Yay! Henry's here!" when I came in the door. I hadn't been there for two weeks; seems they missed me!

Over the weekend, another new pal of mine was born. His name is Beau Patrick Fairbanks, and he lives in Evergreen, CO. His dad and my dad are best buds. You can read all about him in his brother Brady's blog when you click here - http://www.banksfamdamily.blogspot.com/.

I'd like to also give a "shout out" to my cousin's Presley and Cody! I know you guys read my column everyday and I appreciate it! See you soon and may the force be with you!!

New Year's Rockin' Eve

Are we the Three Stooges or what?!?!? I spent New Year's Eve rockin with my bud Palmer and cuz Jasper! We're also known as the Three Wiseman and/or We Three Kings. I like to spend most of my time picking on Palmer. He just hates it. I'm still bigger though so he has to deal.
Mom and Dad had a big rager on Sunday night to welcome in '07. All I know is that is was snowing like cats and dogs when everyone showed up, and everyone was still here in the morning when I woke up! It tuned into one giant sleep over. Bodies as far as the eye could see. It was fun for me so we all could play together again in the morning. Dad made French toast for everyone. We spent the rest of the day in our jammies hanging out on the couch.
Today is my first day back at daycare for 2 weeks! I miss Mom and Dad today. I've been with them so much, now I miss them when they're gone. But its nice to see Darlene too. I've missed her a lot. Well, I'm off. Today is the last day of diet cheating at our house and I though I heard someone mention pizza for dinner!! Wahoo!!
