And Theeerrrrreeee Racing

The first thing I wanted to do once we landed, besides eat Chick Fil A, was go swimming! And that's just what I did. Its amazing when you hop in a plane and its 31 degrees, and then you land 2 hours later and its 80 degrees. After swimming, we headed to the horse track and I got to watch the horses race. We ate chicken fried steak, and of course Gammy won a mint. Also, please note new horsie shirt pictured above.

Guess what I had for lunch the next day? Come on, guess! CALAMARI! And I LOVED it. Mom didn't think I would, but I did. See here's proof. So, now that's my new favorite...along with salad with ranch dressing on the side....but that's a whole 'nother story.

More to come,
HAJ

Chocolatey Chippy

Mom and I have been baking cookies. Yesterday we made chocolate chip, and today we're making oatmeal raisin. Mom thinks if your gonna have a cookie, you may as well eat an oatmeal raisin so you get fiber and fruit. Did you know a watched pan of cookies never bakes? Whatever. I just want the chocolate. Especially with a big sippy cup full of ice cold milk.

I need it like a hole in the head,

Sonic Boom?

One of my mom's favorite restaurants "down south" is Sonic. Nothing can hold a candle to her all time favorite, Chik-Fil-A, but Sonic is second. Anyway, they just opened a couple of Sonic's here in the Twin Cities, the closest one is 15 miles from our house. So of course we hopped in the car and headed out.

All of my family and friends in TX, OK, and KS are going to love this. When we pulled up we saw this. I mean there were cops and security guards everywhere. We thought since this was during the RNC maybe the President needed a burger and some tots like the rest of us. We finally found our way in, around tons of police line tape. We asked one of the guards what was going on, and they said that it gets pretty busy around here, and they're there to direct traffic. What? At a burger joint? I mean, they have the best cherry-lime aid ever, but come on.

Eating Our Way Across the Midway

Over the weekend we honored the holiday by doing absolutely no labor what-so-ever! We actually indulged in our once a year tradition of eating our way across the midway. Yes, it was the MN State Fair, and we hit it hard! The usual guests were there including me, my mom, my dad, my uncle Derek and auntie Chris, my pal Palmer, and his mom and dad too. Get ready to grab your Rolaids....here's what we ate:

The morning started out with corn fritters with a little honey butter to dip 'em in. Who knew how great these were? We then had to try the pork chop on a stick, and it was also fabulous. We regretfully didn't buy the seasoning for them, so have to wait a full year for one more bite! PMan's parents were hunkering for fried cheese on a stick, so we had to fulfill them. That was amazing, kind of like grilled cheese. Daddy was eyein' a big glass of fresh squeezed lemonade to wash down the pork chop, mean while uncle D grabbed a breakfast burrito. This was yummy, and so much better than last years version.

Next we headed to the Turkey To Go stand for a TURKEY SANDWICH! This was the most amazing sandwich ever, and we NEED the recipe. There's no way to wait a year. On the way to the pretzel stand, we saw horsie poop. Wouldn't be the fair with out it. Palmer seemed to like the cupcakes too. Speaking of tradition, the fair would be nothing without Sweet Martha's cookies or the famous french fries. One of the new and odd foods at the fair was called a pig licker. Bacon dipped in chocolate. Don't knock it, you'd be surprised...not too shabby.

The trip was rounded out with fried pickles and ranch, a Reuben on a stick, and to wash it all down a nice cold bottle of water! We had a great time, as usual. I want to thank auntie Chris' mom and dad for letting us park in their lawn, and for all the snacks! We'll be back next year! Tune in tomorrow for more fun at the fair!

I Like Mine Crispy

I've tried it before, and haven't liked it. I've tried maple brown sugar, and I've tried peppered. I've tried it limp (Grampa Jack) and I've tried it crispy. All of these options have lead to nothing but fake gagging and turning up my nose. Most of you aren't going to believe this, but I'm talking about bacon. Well, Mom made BLT's last night for supper, and my eyes have been opened. Now I like it limp, now I like it crispy, now I like it peppery and maple sugary. Now I just like it and I gotta have it. Doesn't hurt when there is Miracle Whip on toast and some yummy tomatoes squeezed in between - you can keep the lettuce. That's for another day.

Lunching By the Pool

What can be better than lunch by the pool? Mom whips me up a PB&J, throws on a couple of cheetos, a banana, and a nice icey cold sippy cup o'milk. I swim for a bit, then have a couple of bites, swim a bit more, eat a bit more...life is good.

French Fries In My Future...

Wednesday are becoming one of my favorite days of the week. Since its Mom's "Friday", we always go out to dinner to celebrate that she made it through another grueling three day week. So, tonight is no different, we're probably off to some fancy, shmancy restaurant like Chili's. I'll get my favorite grilled cheese and a side of fruit. The only thing better than Wednesdays, is Saturdays......then I get to have french fries with my grilled cheese. Mom's a big believer in living it up on the weekends.

Signed, sealed and delivered,
HAJ

PS - Since Mom did the post yesterday, I didn't get a chance to send a shout out to my cuz in Oklahoma, Hudson! He turned the big 0-1 yesterday. Check out his stylin' crown here...

Tacos and Boots

What could be better than tacos for lunch and static in your hair from your winter cap you ask? How about NEW BOOTS! I got new Cars boots today, and they even light up when I walk. I can't really see that though, but you can when you watch me walk! It might not be a big deal to you, getting new boots, but for me its a relief. Remember how I talk about my "thick" feet, not necessarily wide, but "thick"? Well, I was having the darnedest time finding boots to fit my feet into, and without boots Lini wouldn't let me play outside i the snow with the other kids. I know. So now I'm ALL set......just in time to go to Texas where its 83 degrees. I just can't win.

Have a little nip,
HAJ

PS - I need to send a special shout out to Auntie Gina, for its her birthday today! We won't say how old, but she'll always be younger than Mama.
